City by the Sea (DVD, PAL, Region 2)
City by the Sea is a 2002 crime drama directed by Michael Caton-Jones, starring Robert De Niro, Frances McDormand and James Franco. Inspired by a true story, the film combines a police investigation with a powerful father-and-son drama.
De Niro plays veteran New York police detective Vincent LaMarca, a man whose difficult family history has followed him throughout his life. While investigating a murder, Vincent discovers that the principal suspect is his estranged son, Joey, played by James Franco. The case forces him to confront both his professional responsibilities and unresolved personal issues, while his relationship with Michelle, played by Frances McDormand, adds another layer to the story.
