Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (DVD, Region 2, PAL)
Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra is a colourful live-action comedy adventure based on the famous Asterix comic books by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo.
Egypt is under the rule of the powerful Cleopatra, played by Monica Bellucci. After a challenge from Julius Caesar, Cleopatra promises that her people can construct an enormous and magnificent palace in just three months. The seemingly impossible task falls to architect Numerobis, who knows that failure could have some very unpleasant consequences.
Desperate for help, Numerobis travels to Gaul and calls upon the legendary druid Getafix and his magical strength-giving potion. Asterix and Obelix accompany him back to Egypt, where they face Roman soldiers, sabotage, dangerous construction work and plenty of comic chaos while trying to finish Cleopatra's palace before the deadline.
Starring Christian Clavier as Asterix, Gérard Depardieu as Obelix, Jamel Debbouze as Numerobis and Monica Bellucci as Cleopatra, this large-scale French production combines the humour of the original comics with elaborate sets, action and slapstick comedy.
This Dutch DVD release is especially useful for local viewers because it contains both the Dutch-spoken version and the original French-language version. Bonus material includes the original theatrical trailer and filmographies.
