Gothika (2003) is a supernatural psychological horror thriller directed by Mathieu Kassovitz, starring Academy Award winner Halle Berry alongside Robert Downey Jr., Penélope Cruz, Charles S. Dutton and John Carroll Lynch.
Dr. Miranda Grey (Halle Berry) is a respected criminal psychologist working at the Woodward Penitentiary psychiatric institution, where she treats patients suffering from severe mental disorders. Among her patients is Chloe (Penélope Cruz), a troubled young woman who claims to be haunted by supernatural forces.
Miranda's carefully ordered life takes a terrifying turn when she awakens inside the very institution where she previously worked, only to discover that she has become a patient herself. With no memory of the events that brought her there, she learns that she has been accused of murdering her husband.
Desperate to prove her innocence, Miranda begins experiencing disturbing visions and unexplained supernatural phenomena. As she struggles to distinguish reality from hallucination, she uncovers frightening secrets that challenge everything she once believed about the human mind.
Combining psychological suspense, supernatural horror and unexpected twists, Gothika delivers an atmospheric mystery filled with tension, unsettling imagery and powerful performances. Produced by Dark Castle Entertainment, the film explores themes of guilt, trauma, revenge and the thin boundary between sanity and madness.
This Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment DVD edition features the film in PAL anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1), with English and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and Dutch, English, Portuguese and Spanish subtitles.
The DVD also includes an audio commentary by director Mathieu Kassovitz and cinematographer Matthew Libatique, the Limp Bizkit music video Behind Blue Eyes, and promotional trailers for several films, including Hellboy, Identity, The Missing, Secret Window and Spider-Man 2.
