Haar Naam Was Sarah (DVD, 2-Disc Special Edition, Region 2, PAL)
Haar Naam Was Sarah is a powerful historical drama based on the bestselling novel by Tatiana de Rosnay, starring Kristin Scott Thomas and directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner.
Paris, July 1942. Ten-year-old Sarah and her family are arrested during the infamous Vel' d'Hiv Roundup, in which thousands of Jewish residents of Paris were detained before deportation. Before being taken away, Sarah locks her younger brother Michel inside a cupboard in their apartment, believing that she will soon return to free him.
Decades later, American journalist Julia Jarmond, living in Paris, is assigned to investigate the roundup. Her research gradually uncovers Sarah's story and reveals an unexpected connection between the tragedy of the past and Julia's own family.
Moving between wartime France and the present day, Haar Naam Was Sarah explores memory, guilt, family secrets and the lasting consequences of one of the darkest chapters in French history.
This 2 Disc Special Edition is especially attractive for collectors, adding an approximately 60-minute making-of documentary, a news report, trailer and teaser. The pictured copy also retains its original Dutch cardboard slipcover.
Cover language: Dutch. The film is in French and English with Dutch and French subtitle options.
