Hans Teeuwen – Trui (DVD, PAL, Region 2)
Hans Teeuwen: Trui presents the complete live theatrical performance of one of the Netherlands' most distinctive and influential cabaret comedians. Combining absurdist humour, sharp satire, theatrical sketches and unpredictable storytelling, this DVD captures Hans Teeuwen's unmistakable comedic style in a performance filled with surreal situations, provocative observations and unexpected twists.
Originally premiering on 25 October 1999, Trui marked Hans Teeuwen's third solo cabaret programme, following Hard en Zielig and Met een Breierdeck. The show further established his reputation for unconventional comedy, blending poetic moments, deliberately absurd characters, musical interludes and outrageous humour into an unpredictable theatrical experience.
Throughout the performance, Teeuwen moves effortlessly between seemingly innocent observations and confrontational comedy. His distinctive delivery, expressive stage presence and willingness to challenge traditional cabaret conventions make Trui a memorable example of contemporary Dutch comedy.
This DVD features the complete theatrical version, recorded live at De Kleine Komedie in Amsterdam on 24 and 25 May 2000. Unlike an edited television broadcast, this edition presents the integral stage performance, allowing viewers to experience the show as originally performed before a live audience.
The recording was directed for television by Rogier van der Ploeg, with production by Hummelinck Stuurman Producties and DVD distribution through Universal Pictures Benelux.
In addition to the approximately 130-minute main performance, this edition includes bonus material featuring Hans Teeuwen in de Kleedkamer, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the comedian in his dressing room, alongside a preview of Dat Dan Weer Wel.
Presented on a single DVD in the original Dutch language, the performance features Dolby Digital 2.0 audio, a traditional 4:3 picture format and PAL video encoding. The release carries a Dutch age classification of 16.
