The Mission
Set in the mid-18th century, The Mission follows Rodrigo Mendoza (Robert De Niro), a former slave trader who seeks redemption after killing his brother. He joins Father Gabriel (Jeremy Irons), a Jesuit priest building missions among indigenous tribes in the jungles between Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. As Spain and Portugal battle over colonial borders, the mission faces destruction, forcing Mendoza to choose between his newfound faith and armed resistance. Featuring a sweeping score by Ennio Morricone, this powerful drama explores faith, sacrifice, and colonial conflict.
