The Imitation Game (DVD, PAL, Region 2)
The Imitation Game is a 2014 historical drama directed by Morten Tyldum, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as British mathematician and cryptanalyst Alan Turing alongside Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance and Mark Strong.
Set primarily during the Second World War, the film follows Turing as he joins a secret British codebreaking operation at Bletchley Park. Together with a team of mathematicians and cryptanalysts, he works on the enormous challenge of deciphering Nazi Germany's Enigma communications. Central to their efforts is the development of an electromechanical machine capable of helping the team process the vast number of possible Enigma settings.
Alongside its wartime story, the film explores Turing's personal life and the difficulties he faced in British society. The film received eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, as prominently advertised on this edition's front cover, and won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
