Young Frankenstein (DVD, Special Edition, PAL, Region 2)
Young Frankenstein is Mel Brooks' celebrated 1974 comedy parody of the classic Frankenstein films, starring Gene Wilder as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein.
Frederick has spent much of his life distancing himself from his family's notorious experiments. After inheriting his grandfather's Transylvanian estate, however, he travels to the old castle and discovers Victor Frankenstein's laboratory. Assisted by the unforgettable hunchbacked Igor, played by Marty Feldman, and laboratory assistant Inga, Frederick is gradually drawn into continuing his grandfather's work.
His experiments eventually produce a new creature, played by Peter Boyle, setting off a wonderfully absurd series of events that lovingly parody the classic Universal-era Frankenstein movies.
Filmed in atmospheric black and white, Young Frankenstein combines gothic horror imagery with Mel Brooks' distinctive comedy. Gene Wilder also co-wrote the screenplay with Brooks, and the film has become one of the best-known horror comedies of the 1970s.
Cover language: Dutch / French. The film is the European Special Edition with English audio and multiple subtitle options.
