The Aviator (DVD, Region 2, PAL)
Leonardo DiCaprio stars as legendary aviation pioneer, filmmaker and industrialist Howard Hughes in The Aviator, Martin Scorsese's lavish biographical drama chronicling one of the most fascinating and turbulent figures of 20th-century America.
Beginning with Hughes' rise in Hollywood, the film follows his extraordinary ambition as he pours enormous resources into filmmaking and aviation. Determined to push technological boundaries, Hughes develops increasingly advanced aircraft, breaks aviation records and builds a business empire while moving among Hollywood's biggest stars.
Behind his wealth and success, however, Hughes struggles with increasingly severe obsessive behaviour. His drive for perfection, complicated relationships and battles with powerful business and political opponents gradually place enormous pressure on both his career and personal life.
Leonardo DiCaprio leads an impressive cast alongside Cate Blanchett as Katharine Hepburn and Kate Beckinsale as Ava Gardner. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film combines Hollywood history, spectacular aviation sequences and intimate character drama.
The film received 11 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor, and ultimately won 5 Academy Awards.
Cover language: Dutch. The film is in English with Dutch subtitles.
