The Shadow (DVD, PAL, Region 2)
The Shadow is a 1994 action-adventure superhero film directed by Russell Mulcahy, bringing the classic pulp and radio crime-fighting character to the screen. Alec Baldwin stars as the mysterious Shadow, alongside John Lone, Penelope Ann Miller, Peter Boyle, Ian McKellen and Tim Curry.
Set against a stylish 1930s backdrop, the story follows wealthy playboy Lamont Cranston, who secretly operates as the Shadow. Using his unusual mental abilities and talent for clouding the minds of others, he wages a hidden war against crime. His greatest challenge arrives when Shiwan Khan, a powerful descendant of Genghis Khan, emerges with ambitions that threaten New York and far beyond.
Combining superhero adventure, fantasy, crime and pulp-era imagery, the film draws directly on the long-running Shadow character that originated in the early 20th century and became especially famous through pulp magazines and radio.
This Universal Pictures DVD presents the film in 16:9 anamorphic widescreen and includes English, French and Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. A broad selection of subtitles is provided, including Dutch, English, French, German, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Portuguese, Danish and Turkish.
