Until Death is a dark 2007 crime-action thriller starring Jean-Claude Van Damme in one of the more dramatic and troubled roles of his career.
Van Damme plays Anthony Stowe, a corrupt and heroin-addicted police detective whose personal and professional life has fallen apart. Feared rather than respected and increasingly isolated from those around him, Stowe's destructive lifestyle eventually catches up with him when he is critically wounded and falls into a coma.
Against the odds, Stowe survives. When he awakens months later, he is no longer the same man. Confronted with the consequences of his past, he sets out to correct the mistakes he has made while facing dangerous enemies who are far from finished with him.
Rather than relying solely on martial-arts action, Until Death combines violent crime-thriller elements with a darker redemption story, giving Van Damme a more dramatic character than in many of his classic action films. Stephen Rea co-stars, with Simon Fellows directing.
