World Star Festival: In Aid of the World's Refugees (LP Vinyl, Stereo, 88 888 DY)
World Star Festival – In Aid of the World's Refugees is a distinctive 1960s charity compilation issued in support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The record brings together an unusually broad selection of major international performers of the era, making it both a snapshot of 1960s popular music and an interesting United Nations-related benefit release.
Artists represented include Diana Ross & The Supremes, Dionne Warwick, Ray Charles, Simon & Garfunkel, The Bee Gees, Shirley Bassey, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, Dusty Springfield, Barbra Streisand, Sammy Davis Jr., Sonny & Cher, Julie Andrews, Tom Jones, Paul Mauriat & His Orchestra, and Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass.
The photographed copy is the stereo edition, catalogue 88 888 DY, marked as also playable on mono equipment. It retains its striking orange psychedelic-style sleeve with UN and refugee-agency emblems and the original blue UN-themed record labels.
