De Tweeling (DVD, PAL, Region 2)
De Tweeling (Twin Sisters) is a 2002 Dutch historical drama directed by Ben Sombogaart and based on the bestselling novel by Tessa de Loo. The story follows twin sisters Lotte and Anna, who are separated after the death of their parents. Lotte grows up in the Netherlands while Anna is raised in Germany, placing the sisters on opposite sides of dramatically different social and political circumstances.
As the Second World War approaches and unfolds, their lives take increasingly different paths. Anna becomes involved with a German SS officer, while Lotte's Jewish fiancé is deported to Auschwitz. Their experiences of war, love and loss profoundly affect their relationship, raising the question of whether the sisters can ever overcome the divisions created by history.
The film stars Thekla Reuten, Nadja Uhl, Ellen Vogel, Gudrun Okras, Jeroen Spitzenberger and Roman Knizka, and was directed by Ben Sombogaart.
This Dutch RCV DVD presents the film in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen with Dutch/German Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and Dutch and English subtitles.
