Dvořák / Smetana – Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" / The Moldau is a classical orchestral CD released on the Vivace label, featuring two celebrated compositions from the Czech Romantic tradition.

The recording is performed by the London Festival Orchestra, conducted by Victor de Stradelli, and combines Antonín Dvořák's magnificent Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95, popularly known as From the New World, with Bedřich Smetana's famous symphonic poem The Moldau (Vltava).

Composed in 1893 during Dvořák's stay in the United States, the New World Symphony is among the most recognised works in classical music. Its four movements combine powerful orchestral passages, memorable melodies and the expressive Largo movement, particularly famous for its haunting English horn theme.

Smetana's The Moldau, composed in 1874 as part of his symphonic cycle Má Vlast, musically portrays the journey of the Vltava River through the Czech countryside, from its beginnings to its passage through Prague.

This West German-manufactured Vivace CD, catalogue number G-512, features a total playing time of approximately 56 minutes and 34 seconds. The original packaging includes yellow classical artwork, a black-tray jewel case and a Dutch promotional savings insert advertising Vivace CDs at Vroom & Dreesmann.

The promotional insert states that the offer was valid until 1 January 1990, providing useful historical context for this early CD edition.

An appealing addition to collections of Romantic classical music, orchestral recordings, Czech composers and early European compact disc releases.
