Frailty (DVD, PAL, Region 2)
Frailty is a dark supernatural psychological thriller starring Bill Paxton, Matthew McConaughey and Powers Boothe, and also marks Paxton's feature-film directorial debut.
The story begins when a man identifying himself as Fenton Meiks approaches FBI agent Wesley Doyle with information concerning the notorious "God's Hand" serial killings. His disturbing account reaches back to 1979, when Fenton and his younger brother Adam lived with their widowed father. Their seemingly ordinary family life changes dramatically when their father announces that he has received a divine mission: he believes certain people are actually demons disguised as humans and that he and his sons have been chosen to destroy them.
What follows is an increasingly unsettling story about faith, family, morality and the question of whether the father's terrifying visions are madness or something much harder to explain. The film deliberately develops its mystery through Fenton's recollections, making it particularly suited to viewers who enjoy supernatural horror with a strong psychological and crime-thriller element.
