Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphonies No. 4 & No. 5 (CD, 1989, Vivace G-580, Digitally Remastered)
Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphonies No. 4 & No. 5 is a 1989 classical CD released by Vivace, featuring two of Beethoven's celebrated orchestral compositions performed by the Hungarian Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of conductor János Ferencsik.
The album presents Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 in B-flat Major, Op. 60 alongside his world-famous Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67, offering contrasting examples of the composer's extraordinary musical imagination.
Completed in 1806, Symphony No. 4 is admired for its elegant orchestration, expressive slow introduction, energetic rhythms and graceful melodies. Often overshadowed by Beethoven's Third and Fifth Symphonies, it remains an important and highly accomplished work from his middle compositional period.
Symphony No. 5, composed between 1804 and 1808, is among the most recognisable works in Western classical music. Its legendary four-note opening motif introduces a dramatic musical journey from the turbulent C minor opening movement to the triumphant C major finale.
This 1989 Vivace edition, catalogue number G-580, was manufactured in West Germany and features digitally remastered stereo recordings. The disc contains eight tracks covering both complete symphonies, with a printed total running time of approximately 67 minutes.
The original packaging features distinctive yellow and turquoise Beethoven artwork and includes a Dutch Vivace promotional savings insert advertising a free CD offer through Vroom & Dreesmann, valid until January 1990.
