UB40 – Labour of Love (CD, DEP International, UK)
Labour of Love is the hugely successful 1983 album by British reggae band UB40, built around the group's interpretations of reggae songs that had influenced them during their early years. The album became one of UB40's signature releases and includes their famous recording of “Red Red Wine”, alongside “Please Don't Make Me Cry,” “Cherry Oh Baby,” “Many Rivers to Cross” and “Johnny Too Bad.”
This copy is the UK-made CD edition, issued by DEP International / Virgin Records under catalogue number DEP CD5. The disc itself states “Made in U.K.” and carries the original 1983 Virgin Records / DEP International copyright information.
The album features Ali Campbell, Robin Campbell, Earl Falconer, Norman Hassan, Brian Travers, Michael Virtue, James Brown and Astro, with additional contributions from musicians including Jackie Mittoo. Production is credited to UB40 and Ray “Pablo” Falconer.
A classic piece of British reggae history and an essential UB40 album, particularly appealing to collectors looking for an older UK CD pressing rather than a later remastered edition.
